Abstract:
The database of Wells Fargo & Co, a financial services company with 23 million customers', deployed RSS (really simple syndication) tools by KnowNow Inc to syndicate its information systems. Wells Fargo had a huge database to manage. The RSS tools helped business managers monitor multiple data warehouses for inconsistencies and notified the appropriate analysts, to make corrections. Another service, provided by the same vendor, monitored a wide range of external RSS feeds to gauge consumer perception of the Wells Fargo brand. The service notified employees when information that matched predetermined criteria was published on the Web. RSS made it easy to access the constantly updated content on the Internet. RSS readers were also set up to check periodically for new items in the feeds subscribed by the employee. News started coming to the employee, rather than the employee going to the news. That saved a tremendous amount of time.
Pedagogical Objectives:
- To understand the concept of RSS.
- To understand how a global organisation syndicates its data resources.
- To understand the advantages of RSS tools.
